Founded in 1946 in Calgary, Alberta Distillers has been producing premium distilled beverages for the global market for decades. While the facility is now owned by Beam Suntory, the third largest distilled beverages producer in the world, Alberta Distillers still uses local ingredients and labour to create award-winning products.
And for almost as long, this tradition has been the strong tradition of trade unionism among the craftspeople at the facility. From the location-specific Local 194-D, where the entire Local Union was run at the plant, to that Local Union’s merger with Local 1118 and eventually Local 401, UFCW members at Alberta Distillers have had as much pride in their work as they have in being union members and shop floor activists.
The work of UFCW Local 401 members at Alberta Distillers can be found on liquor shelves across Canada and beyond, including familiar and celebrated brands such as Alberta Premium, Dark Horse, Banff Ice Vodka, Alberta Pure Vodka, Alberta Springs, Windsor Canadian, Banff Ice Summit Vodka, and Alberta Pure Raspberry Vodka.
