Interestingly, Lantic (Roger’s) Sugar is actually a separate Local Union (Local 383) who, with our Local, has a “service agreement”.
The members in this facility process sugar from sugar beets and package it in a variety of ways, as well as selling liquid sugar to mostly soft drink companies.
They process beets for about five months of the year – usually starting in September – and spend the remainder of the year doing maintenance in the main plant and packaging in the warehouse. The Local has about 90 full-time and 40 seasonal workers and is situated in Taber.
