Several dozen hard working 401 members ensure that this Edmonton-based rendering plant is considered one of many vital services provided in the food production industry. According to their website, West Coast Reduction can boast that “while insects, birds, and animals provide a natural cleanup service, humans create more waste streams than nature can take care of. That’s where rendering comes in. As an integral part of a sustainable local food chain, rendering keeps energy in the system by creating high value products from materials that would be otherwise sent to land fill or compost.” This oftentimes difficult work can be undervalued in our society, however, these members are far from undervalued here at UFCW and we salute them for the hard work they do every day to make our world a more sustainable one.
