Since 2017, many of you have contacted us about switching to a union that knows your industry well and has a strong history of fighting and winning for you. You want a union that belongs to you and works to help you to make your working life better. We are that union.
UFCW Local 401 is the food workers’ union in Alberta. We are the largest private-sector union in the province, with 32,000 members working across many industries, including food processing, retail, agriculture, and more. We know the food processing industry, and we know Maple Leaf.
We have seen what happened to your union contract during the last round of negotiations, including a number of bad takeaways. We want to help you fix these problems. That’s what a strong union does.
In 2017, you were told that you had “nothing to lose” by joining your current union. This is not a promise they have been able to keep.
Many of you have asked us to work with you to restore the strength you once had and to fight for a better contract and a strong union at Maple Leaf. Let’s work together to make things right.
We are working to ensure the most seamless transition to UFCW Local 401, but none of this can happen without you.
We would be happy to explain the process and answer any questions you might have. For that reason, we’ll be holding open meetings for you and your co-workers to attend when convenient for you.
