While we are happy to see our long-time friend Alan retire and begin a wonderful new chapter in his life, we are indeed sad to see him go. Alan has been an amazing Shop Steward and in his 30 years with Safeway, he has developed a reputation of being a strong source of support for his many coworkers over the years.
“He is known and valued for many things he’s done to help his coworkers, but it’s his reputation for being a good listener and trusted confidant that many will miss,” Walking Steward Kevin Ali shares.
Alan also walked his picket line when he and thousands of other Safeway workers went on strike across the province for 75 days. It’s this kind of dedication that Alan is known for and he leaves a big hole to fill.
Now that his time is his own, Alan tells us that he is an avid traveller and plans to spend time visiting many places and visiting loved ones. He has also taken up painting and is excited to discover his creative side through that creative outlet.
When asked what words he would like to leave others with as he finishes up a stellar career, Alan enthusiastically says, “GO UNION, STAY STRONG!”
Take care in your retirement, Alan. Thank you for everything you have done over the decades for your fellow Safeway UFCW 401 members. May you have a long, healthy, and happy retirement.
