99% of Sofina Calgary members reject the company’s offer!

Sofina workers send the company a strong message: do better!

Sofina Calgary workers have sent the company a strong message, rejecting its offer by an overwhelming 99%.

In an in-person vote held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, and an online vote held on Monday and Tuesday, February 23-24, 2026, 90% of eligible voting members turned out to cast their ballots on this important decision.

The incredible turnout by Sofina workers sent the company a clear message about the strength and solidarity behind the rejection, as well as the need to do better if a contract is to be ratified.

“Employers like Sofina Foods need to understand that we are still facing an affordability crisis and workers want to see offers that meet their needs,” comments UFCW 401 President Thomas Hesse. “Our members need a good raise, they deserve a good raise, and companies like Sofina can afford to give them a good raise.”

“I’m proud of the strength and solidarity our Sofina Calgary members demonstrated through this vote. A 99% rejection with 90% voter turnout sends billionaire bosses like Michael Latifi a strong message that will reach him all the way out on his $200 million superyacht: do better!” concludes Hesse.

Throughout the voting process, Sofina members expressed serious concerns about the company’s offer, specifically identifying:

  • Insufficient wage increases,
  • A disregard for the importance of union representation in the Plant,
  • Numerous concerning rollbacks,
  • An unwillingness to support education and training for Sofina Calgary workers,
  • And an array of other deficiencies in the offer.

With the undeniable strength of your vote, your union will now approach the company to seek further negotiation opportunities in an effort to address your concerns.

Know that your union will continue to have your back as we keep pushing the company to make you an offer that meets your needs.

We will keep you updated as this process unfolds so that you can make informed decisions with confidence and courage.
