BAYSHORE: WE’RE TAKING OUR CASE TO THE PUBLIC

As the employer continues to dig their heels in, we are preparing to take our case to the public.

At our last round of mediation in late September, the Company indicated that they felt the parties were too far apart for mediation to continue. We are continuing to address this issue with the mediator, but we are not staying idle in the meantime.

We mentioned in our last update that we are looking at appealing to the public for support. We are preparing our publicity campaign for that purpose and will be launching it very soon.

In the meantime, we’d like to get some more specific feedback from the members on one of the issues that some of you have mentioned. In talking about the challenges faced by Bayshore employees in the current environment, some members mentioned having to pay out-of-pocket for essential supplies when working with clients.

We’d like to confront the employer with some numbers and details regarding this issue. We need to hear your voice about these expenses and what they involve.

Thanks for making your voice heard as we prepare to talk to the public about these issues!

MORE INFORMATION

A recent change in Alberta labour law came into effect in April, making home health care workers an essential service under the Continuing Care Act.

Because your work in home healthcare is now deemed an essential service by the government, we’re taking steps to solidify your rights to job action. We are currently negotiating an Essential Services Agreement that will clarify and solidify your right to strike, along with other key elements of members’ relationship with Bayshore.

Such an Agreement will provide you with access to particular forms of job action that might not look like walking a picket line in the traditional sense, but that can still bring pressure to bear on your Employer.

Stay tuned for further updates!
