UFCW 401 members at Calgary Quest Children’s society have voted to join the National Defence Fund!
Ninety-seven percent of voters were in favour of joining the NDF and accessing the resources it provides for striking workers. The $1 million fund offers added financial, legal and organizing supports and provides additional negotiating leverage for striking workers or those facing a lockout.
“Joining the National Defence Fund is an important step,” says President Thomas Hesse of UFCW Local 401. “And it is a courageous step. It lets your employers know that you are taking negotiations seriously and are willing to put all the options on the table if they don’t do the same.”
“We congratulate the membership at Calgary Quest on their vote,” adds Richelle Stewart, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 401. “And we look forward to standing strong with you as you continue to bargain for the deal you deserve.”
