Canada Malting Bargaining Update

The Canada Malting Union contract is up for renewal at the end of this month. In anticipation of upcoming negotiations, Local 401 members completed bargaining surveys that were sent out several weeks ago. We also held an in-person proposal meeting at that time.

The surveys and the proposal meeting provided us with many valuable suggestions for improving your terms and conditions at work. This process also revealed that many employees at Canada Malting were interested in joining the union bargaining committee, which is fantastic!

Your union contract allows up to five employees to be part of the bargaining committee. The following members, representing different departments in your workplace, have been selected to form the committee:

•           Kyle Baxter (Malt House),

•           Andrew Rosher (Maintenance),

•           Afonso Lima (New Malt Handling),

•           Robert Rae (Packaging)

•           Mattew Hala (Laboratory)

Negotiation Schedule & Participation

We have confirmed the following bargaining dates with the Employer:

  • April 9/10
  • May 6-8
  • June 4/5
  • June 16/17

All negotiations will take place in person at the Glenmore Inn (1000 Glenmore Ct SE, Calgary, AB T2C 2E6).

Your union believes in open and transparent bargaining, and members are welcome to observe the process on their own time. If you would like to attend, please contact Jeff Ible at:
