CARGILL CASE READY: CAN WE BEAT A 99% STRIKE VOTE?

The workers at the Cargill plant in Ontario have voted 99% in favour of taking strike action. They also rejected the Company’s last offer by 99%.

“This is another example of Cargill not giving the members of UFCW what they need during these difficult times,” said Chris O’Halloran, Executive Director of UFCW Local 401. “It is time for Cargill to fix their offer, and to give the membership the income security they need with a guarantee of hours.”

The UFCW members of Local 175 in Ontario will be heading back to the negotiating table on May 21st and have set a strike deadline for May 27th. We will keep our members up to date about what’s happening in Ontario as more details become available.

Cargill has seen a 99% strike vote in Ontario. If we want to make sure they know the members at Cargill Case-Ready are equally serious, we will need to see just as strong a “YES!” vote for strike action here.

We will be holding strike vote preparation meeting at 3:00 pm on June 2nd at The Best Western Premier Calgary Plaza Hotel and Conference Centre, 1316 33 Street NE, Calgary, Alberta.

We will hold the strike vote on June 5th and 6th:

Holiday Inn & Suites Calgary Airport North
20 Freeport PIace NE, Calgary, AB
11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

“We look forward to meeting with the membership on June 2nd and answering their questions,” continued O’Halloran. “Local 401 will be there to support the membership until they get the contract offer they deserve.”
