Cargill Case Ready: 1st Step in Preparing for a Strike

STRIKE PREPARATION MATERIALS ARE STARTING TO ARRIVE

As we prepare for a strike with Cargill Case-Ready, it’s important that members start to plan and prepare themselves.

Members can expect to see regular messages about what to expect while on strike, and how to prepare. We’ll be sending out three messages each week outlining new information on how to get ready.

We know that no-one wants to go on strike. But we also know that during the affordability crisis, employees need a better deal to survive. Cargill can afford it.

The first thing members should consider carefully is any major purchases. Is it the right time to buy a new car or start a renovation? Can you put that major purchase off until after the new contract is ratified?

From our experience in the past, banks and lenders will work with union members who are on strike. We’ll be sending out some additional material and a letter you can use when talking with your financial institution in the coming weeks. But it all starts with making smart choices about big purchases today.

This is the first update of 27 planned updates. We want to make sure that the strike preparation materials are sent to you in a way that’s easy to access and manage.

Message 1 – Thinking seriously about any major purchase is the first step in preparing for a strike.

Keep watching for more information on how to prepare for a strike over the coming weeks. If you have any questions, please contact Teresa (e-mail: tludwig@ufcw401.ab.ca, cell: 587-578-9443) or Devin (e-mail: dyeager@ufcw401.ab.ca, cell: 403-680-4184).
