CARGILL CASE READY: IT IS TIME TO CHOOSE

As we noted last week, Cargill returned at the end of negotiations last week with an improved recommended settlement offer.

Click here to find a full digital copy of the recommended settlement offer from the company.

This offer is being recommended by the members of the Bargaining Committee, because we believe it is better than going on strike.

Before your strong strike vote, there was no guarantee of hours, no retro pay, no walking steward and smaller raises.

We will be holding information meetings next week on Tuesday, July 2nd and Thursday, July 4th at:

Holiday Inn & Suites Calgary Airport North
20 Freeport PIace NE, Calgary, AB T3J 0T6
Meetings will start at 11:00 am and 7:00 pm on both days
Union officials will be in attendance to answer all of your questions that we can.

The ratification vote will take place on Monday, July 8th at the plant. Members will be able to vote in the Training Room from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. There will be an e-mail vote for anyone who is not able to vote in person on Tuesday, July 9th from 12:01 am to 11:59 pm.

If you will not be able to vote in person, please confirm your email with Alain Mendoza before July 7th. You can reach Alain by e-mail at calgary.relief2@ufcw401.ab.ca or by phone at 403.291.1047.

Please take the time to consider this offer carefully and weigh your options. It is important to remember that on top of the improvements listed above, you will also receive all the improvement previously agreed to and shared with you:

  • Introduction of vision care, including eye exams.
  • Conversion of current flex employees to full-time with benefits.
  • Increased boot allowance.
  • Increased orthodontic coverage.
  • Improved job levels.
  • Improved health and safety language.

There were a lot of questions from the flex workers at the last membership meeting, so we want to make sure everyone understands that all the flex workers will be moved to full-time status and receive benefits.

We should be able to share more specifics on how much you will individually receive in retroactive pay soon. Cargill will be providing estimates this week and we will share those with our members individually once we receive them.

If you have any other questions, please contact Alain (see contact info above), Devin Yeager (e-mail: dyeager@ufcw401.ab.ca, cell: 403-680-4184), or Chris O’Halloran (e-mail: cohalloran@ufcw401.ab.ca, cell: 587-999-6448).

In solidarity,

Your UFCW Local 401 Union Bargaining Committee
