The Cargill Case-Ready membership has sent a strong message with a 100% strike vote.
Let’s build on why that number is so strong. 84% of the membership took time out of their day to come to a hotel and vote 100% in favour of taking strike action.
Building on that success, we opened picket shift registration. In the first week of registration, 93% of members have registered to picket.
“Numbers do not lie,” said UFCW Local 401 Executive Director Chris O’Halloran. “Cargill has to know that the membership is prepared and ready to strike if they do not put a substantially improved offer on the table.”
We want to remind every member that at Local 401, we conduct open bargaining. This means that any member who wishes to attend bargaining is welcome to observe.
You can find us at The Sheraton Cavalier Hotel at 2620 32 Ave NE, Calgary, AB (on the corner of Barlow Trail and 32nd Avenue). Negotiations are scheduled for Thursday, June 20th and Friday, June 21st.
If you are planning to attend, please let us know ahead of time so we can make sure to have space for you to sit. If you would like to know more about open bargaining, please check this link for an informative video on the subject.
“It’s time for the company to address the guarantee of hours, fix the overtime problem and put a wage increase on the table that provides for the needs of our members,” continued O’Halloran. “If they are not prepared to do this, I believe any future contract offer will be rejected and the membership will go on strike.”
