CARGILL CASE READY: UFCW 401 WILL SUPPORT MEMBERS DURING THE STRIKE
We’re going into a busy week of strike preparation, starting with the strike vote preparation meeting at 3:00 pm on June 2nd at The Best Western Premier Calgary Plaza Hotel and Conference Centre, 1316 33 Street NE, Calgary, Alberta.
Our picket training classes will then be held at UFCW 401’s Calgary office at 46 Hopewell Way NE, Calgary, Alberta. The first class will be on June 3rd, and the second class will be on June 4th. Each class will start at 9:00 am and wrap up around 4:00 pm, and lunch will be provided.
Then, the strike vote will be held on June 5th and 6th at Holiday Inn & Suites Calgary Airport North, 20 Freeport PIace NE, Calgary, AB from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
We know a strong Yes Vote is important to send a message to Cargill that they need to improve their offer, guarantee workers the hours they need to survive and fix the problems with overtime.
We also know that our members and the Union need to prepare for a long and protracted strike. One of the ways we do is this through the Local 401 Hardship Fund.
Local 401 will establish a Hardship Fund for Cargill Case-Ready picketers in the event of a protracted dispute. A Hardship Fund Committee will also be established if the strike lasts a long time. Those with unique hardships arising directly from picketing can appeal by application to that Committee – made up of Union representatives and Case-Ready employees – who will determine the merit of hardship applications.
Striking always involves some economic sacrifices, but UFCW Local 401 is committed to working with our members to mitigating hardship and ensure your economic survival.
