Compass: The Company Drags Out Negotiations

It was a disappointing and frustrating day of bargaining with Compass Group. The Company simply did not come prepared.

Your Union’s negotiating committee was prepared and ready to negotiate. The Company started the day off by not having a proper proposal to put on the table. The committee tried to move negotiation along by asking the Company to table their last, best and final offer, so the membership could vote on it.

The Company refused to table that offer. Instead, they tabled this offer, which the committee felt did not meet the needs of the membership.

We countered with this proposal — and then the Company said they could not provide another counter.

“It is clear that the company was not prepared for bargaining or to finalize a new contract,” said Chris O’Halloran, Executive Director for UFCW Local 401. “Our members are suffering and need us to address the affordability crisis, and for the Company not to be prepared to negotiate was an insult.”

We are scheduled for negotiation with Compass Group again on October 7th, 2024. We have made it clear that we expect the Company to come prepared and ready to conclude a new contract.

The Union is planning and keeping all options available to get the best contract possible. The members will be getting more information about the possibility of a strike if the company is not prepared to put a fair offer on the table.
