Gas Bars Headed to Mediation

We have just concluded our third set of bargaining meetings with your Employer. We did our best to try and come to a recommended offer for you to vote on, but we were unsuccessful in achieving that.

We have decided to apply for mediation as we are too far apart to vote on any offer that is acceptable to your Union and bargaining committee. Like we had mentioned in our last update to you, the Employer still wants to expand on the hours that you as employees would be forced to work alone. This is unacceptable to us. In conjunction with working alone, each Gas Bar location could lose up to forty-three (43) hours per week. A couple of other issues still outstanding that we are having issues with is wages and benefits.

That being said, we are applying for mediation this week and are hopeful to get a date in the near future to bring this set of bargaining to a conclusion. Once mediation is completed, we should be coming to you with an offer to vote on and it is very important that you show up to make a decision on your working conditions for the next few years.

As we go through mediation, we will keep you informed of any changes.  Please watch for further updates and check the UFCW Local 401 website often. (GoUnion.ca)

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your Union Representative.

Sincerely,

Your Bargaining Committee
