It’s time to start bargaining at Refresco

It’s time to start bargaining at Refresco and your union wants you to know that things will be a bit different this time.

Firstly, we know that everyone is feeling the crunch of the affordability crisis. UFCW Local 401 is committed to doing whatever we can to Stop the Squeeze and make life more affordable for our members.

As the prices of things like groceries, gas, rent, and utilities skyrocket, we also know that everyone is relying on their benefits more than ever. Strengthening benefits is an important goal for us in this current economic climate.

The affordability crisis also leaves us all feeling stretched and stressed out. Having the time we need to spend with friends and family is more important to us than ever as we all work to get through this challenging time.

These were all issues your Union Bargaining Committee discussed when we met on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. We’re very excited to introduce the members of your Bargaining Committee to you:

  • Stephen Doucet
  • Kevin McComb
  • Ken Hamilton
  • Brian Feser
  • Martin Matas

Your Union Bargaining Committee contains a good mix of experienced and newer members and ensures that the Committee has representation from across the Plant.

That’s important because bargaining with Refresco is all about securing the best offer for you!

The other thing that will be different is that we will be bargaining with a focus on being open and transparent. Your Bargaining Committee will communicate with you every step of the way and ensure you know what is going on at every stage of bargaining.

If you have questions, you should not hesitate to ask one of your Bargaining Committee members or your Union Labour Relations Officer, Teresa Ludwig.

We reviewed and discussed all the feedback that you provided through the bargaining survey that was emailed out and circulated throughout the Plant. Your input is incredibly important because bargaining successfully means addressing your priorities and meeting your needs.

Your Committee is now working to take those discussions and turn them into proposals we can present to the Company and guide us in bargaining to get you the best offer possible.

We are meeting with the Company February 20-22, 2024, and we will provide you with an update about those meetings, including showing you both your Committee’s and the Company’s proposals.

Please stay tuned for further updates and stay engaged with bargaining developments so that we can Stop the Squeeze by bargaining strong together!
