Your bargaining committee met with the employer’s committee on January 29th; this marks the beginning of the highly anticipated negotiations for your new contract with McKesson.
We spoke to the state of the economy and how your needs are ever increasing so as to provide to your families, as well as raising issues that the membership and your union have deemed priorities with respect to your working conditions.
Please take a moment to review your Union’s and the Employer’s ingoing proposal packages linked above. At this time, we have only exchanged non-monetary items, with wages, benefits and other monetary items to be shared at a later date.
The initial meeting itself went well. Both sides acknowledged the positive relationship we’ve enjoyed over the years between UFCW 401 members and McKesson, with the stated goals to maintain that positivity and respectful working environment while still striving to achieve the best possible contract for all.
One bittersweet highlight we’d like to share is our gratitude for the dedication your ULRO Cheryl Watamaniuk has shown to the members. She attended bargaining with us in her last week of work prior to retirement, striving to represent and advocate for you all to her last day here at UFCW 401. She will be greatly missed; however, she has left you in the very capable and professional hands of your new ULRO, Ashley Speer. Ashley has a wealth of experience and many of you have met her already. She will be a great benefit for us in bargaining as well as overall for both DCs.
We’ll continue to update you as we progress as part of our open and transparent bargaining processes. Please update your contact information with us if you haven’t so that you can receive updates via email directly.
Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your ULRO Ashley (by email: aspeer@ufcw401.ab.ca or phone: 780-452-0362 ext. 1326) or your Negotiator, Ryan Sapsford (rsapsford@ufcw401.ab.ca). You can also speak directly with your bargaining committee for updates and to ask them questions as well.
