Save On Foods Negotiations! Lots to Discuss as Process Begins

As you may know, both your unions jointly started bargaining to re-new your Union Contract on October 13th, 2015 and we met again on November 3, 4, 5, 2015. The initial exchange of proposals was done in a normal fashion with the Local 1118 tabling 47 proposals and Local 401 tabling 99 proposals, to make amendments to the current Union Contracts. On the Employer side, the Employer put forward 32 proposals that they wish to make amendments on. This gives your Bargaining Committee a total of approximately 178 proposals to discuss and try to resolve.

We currently have the following dates booked for bargaining: December 14, 15, 16, 2015. We have requested from your Employer to provide additional dates in the New Year so we can continue to move forward and negotiate a new Union Contract. At this point, there is not a lot to mention other then we have exchanged proposals and begun the process. It is early in the process and we ask that you watch for further bargaining updates.

We also wanted to introduce your Bargaining Committee to you. We intend to send out further correspondence to update you on our progress when there is something to report.

It is important that you know that your fellow Brothers and Sisters representing you at bargaining are not permitted by the Labour Relations Code, the Privacy Act, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) and by agreement at the bargaining table to discuss issues relating to bargaining with anyone other than a committee member and even then, it is only allowed in a controlled environment and not on the shop floor.

We are working to move the process forward and to achieve a new Union Contract for you to review as soon as we possibly can. We ask that you check your website at either: www.ufcw1118.org or www.ufcw401.ca for future dates and bargaining updates as they will be posted there once we secure them.

Finally, we wish to advise you that your Bargaining Committee consists of the following individuals:

UFCW 1118 – Phillip Corporon, Jolene Messer, Randy McFatridge (advisor), Devin Yeager

UFCW 401 – Sherry Temple, Angela Weatherbee, Gail Vaillan, Shelley Holden, Abdi Guled, Al Olinek

Should you have any questions or concerns, please give your Union Representative a call and they will try to answer them.

Sincerely,

Your Bargaining Committee
