Sobeys Warehouse Negotiations: A Solid Foundation

June 2nd, 2022

Sobeys Warehouse negotiations started this week. We met with the employer from May 30th to June 1st this week. The union negotiating committee is a larger group than traditionally; your committee members are:

  • Andre Dupre
  • Darren Dodge
  • Rosendo Neri
  • Terrance Bakalech
  • Melissa McGregor
  • Jonathan Underwood
  • Claudia Kalavritinos
  • Catherine Lelis
  • Matt Gilks, and
  • Chris O’Halloran Executive Director

Open and transparent negotiation is essential for keeping the membership informed about what is happening. Linked here, you will find the union’s and the company’s initial proposals.

Join us next Wednesday, June 8th, for a zoom membership meeting to discuss negotiation and the membership joining the NDF.

If you are interested in joining negotiations virtually, please email Chris O’Halloran at cohalloran@ufcw401.ab.ca, and you will receive a link every morning to join the negotiation.
“We pushed the company hard to work quickly and not drag out negotiations,” said Chris O’Halloran, Executive Director, Union Spokesperson, and Lead Negotiator. “We’ve made decent progress, and I hope to be into monetary negotiations by the end of next week.”
We will be back at the negotiating table with the company from June 6th to 8th, 2022. Then again, July 4th and 5th, 2022.

The negotiating committee will be handing out a flyer regarding the National Defence Fund (NDF) at the warehouse this week, and you can also get the flyer here.

“It is important to send Sobeys a strong message that we are prepared to fight for a fair contract,” continued O’Halloran. “Sobeys know that there is a 100 million dollars in the NDF, and any membership that is a part of the NDF will have a well-funded strike.’
