Sofina Signals Change is Coming

Sofina Bargaining Update

Edmonton, AB – June 24, 2020 – Your Union Bargaining Committee met with the company on June 15,16,17, 2020.  We had a productive session addressing many of the non-monetary proposals and we can report there were productive conversations regarding issues important to you. Once we have addressed your proposals that have no monetary ( dollar value) attached, we hope to begin negotiating on money-related proposals during our next bargaining dates.

At this point we have yet to agree upon dates for our next session.

Prior to the commencement of bargaining, company officials delivered a presentation on the current state of the industry and its impact on your workplace. They told your committee that the Turkey Marketing Board will be limiting production in the near future to address backlogs of inventory that have been building up during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While it is not unusual for an employer to make this type of presentation to a bargaining committee prior to commencement of monetary discussions, it is a clear signal that we expect challenges when we get to wages, benefits, and other cost related issues that matter to you. It will only be through standing together and supporting our bargaining committee that we can get you a fair and reasonable contract that recognizes the challenges both you and your employer are currently facing. Sofina must recognize that nothing happens without your hard work!

We will continue to keep you updated as new dates are scheduled and future meetings occur.
