We continued to focus on scheduling last week in bargaining. Though we made progress, there is still a long way to go, and the union negotiating committee has been pushing the company to move through issues with more urgency. We agreed to eight improvements this week, but we are still waiting on the company’s responses to 18 scheduling proposals.

We want to thank the members who participated in the scheduling survey we sent out; membership engagement and participation will help advance this process and pressure the company to move faster.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, we are still doing bargaining virtually on Microsoft Teams. This application allows members to join and view bargaining much more easily than traditional face-to-face bargaining. If you are interested in watching the next round of negotiations on April 12 – 16, 2021, please contact Melani or Ashley in the Edmonton office at ufcw@ufcw401.ab.ca to get your name on the invite list. We will email an invite link out to any interested member.

There are a few basic rules to remember if you are planning to join us in April:

  • You don’t have to participate for an entire day; you can join and drop off the video conference based on your schedule.
  • We will send a different link each day to all members who want to join the April week of bargaining.
  • You must make sure you turn your sound/microphone off when watching a video call.
  • All members are welcome to participate in the union caucus. You can speak and share your thought and opinion on the topic we are discussing.

If you have any question, please reach out to you Union Labour Relations Officer.

In Solidarity,

Your UFCW Local 401 Negotiations Committee
