At Left: Cargill Case Ready members turn out for an historic 100% strike vote!
UFCW Local 401 has applied today to secondary picket every Wal-Mart, Sobeys, and Loblaws location in the province of Alberta. What this means is that the government will now have to rule on our application.
Click here for a list of the sites where we’ve applied for secondary picketing.
The purpose of secondary picketing is to make the case to Cargill’s customers that they should not purchase Cargill products until the company gives its workers a fair deal. Having an impact on Cargill’s customers is the kind of action that will be necessary to get an improved contract offer from the company that addresses the needs of its employees.
Thanks to everyone who has registered for their picketing shifts! We still need a few more registrations! We’re asking members to picket 40 hour a week – or five 8-hour shifts – to receive their full $500.00 picket benefit. There will be 4 shifts you can register for:
There will be 2 picket shifts for secondary picketing.
We will also ask you to list up to 10 fellow union members you would like to carpool and travel with to retail stores for secondary picketing.
If you still haven’t registered, click here to find the registration form for your picket shifts. If you have any questions, please contact Noah (e-mail: noah.mogesse@ufcw.ca) or Devin (e-mail: dyeager@ufcw401.ab.ca, cell: 403-680-4184).
In solidarity,
Your UFCW Local 401 Union Bargaining Committee
