In a powerful show of unity, 93% of you voted to reject West Coast Reduction’s most recent contract offer. That message is clear: you deserve more, and you are prepared to stand together to achieve it.
Your Union Negotiating Committee will now be applying for mediation; the next step in the collective bargaining process. This will help put increased pressure on the employer to improve their offer. However, the real strength lies in your solidarity and the clarity of your priorities.
“The courage to vote ‘no’ is never taken lightly. It’s a sign of rising expectations and a belief that better is not only possible but necessary,” said Thomas Hesse, President of UFCW Local 401. “This overwhelming result signals that workers are united, aware of their value, and ready to hold the line for dignity and fairness.”
Once the application is submitted, it typically takes a few weeks to appoint a mediator and schedule our next round of negotiations. We will keep you updated every step of the way.
