Why You Should Vote NO on Cargill’s Offer

Have a look at Cargill’s offer HERE.

Cargill is trying to tell us that this is all they have to give and that it’s ‘fair,’ but we don’t buy it. Your UFCW Local 401 Bargaining Committee does not believe that Cargill has put their best offer on the table for a second. And it would be best if you didn’t buy it either.

We will be conducting a vote on Cargill’s offer:

  • 6:00 am to 11:00 pm, Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at the Cargill, East Training Building.
  • 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at the Ramada High River on 1512 13 Avenue SE.

As you weigh your decision, consider that every corner of the food industry has made record profits over the pandemic, Cargill being no exception. And, few Workers have as dangerous and demanding jobs as those at processing plants like Cargill, JBS, Olymel, and Maple Leaf.

“97% of voting members support a strike, and there are millions of Canadians watching and sympathizing with the dilemma of Cargill workers,” declared UFCW Local 401 President Tom Hesse. “It’s absurd that Cargill would want to see a prolonged attack on their brand. If ever a group of workers deserved more, it is here, now!”

We must make the Company acknowledge what they already know. The exhausting stress and pressure they have put you, your family, and your co-workers through over the last year and a half that they have traded for their record profits are not fair.

And that is why you should VOTE NO –stand tall with the 97% of your brother and sisters that supported a strike vote! Get the respect, recognition, safe workplace, and fair compensation you deserve!

Your committee is determined. If Cargill doesn’t want a strike at Cargill, their option is clear. Give you higher wage increases, better retro-pay, and a significant pandemic bonus. There is not much time until we walk out, so Cargill now is the time to try harder.

We will do what Cargill union members tell us to do. The power is yours, and you now have your chance to vote the Company’s offer.

With the world watching, take this moment to shout; Cargill members deserve better and are not afraid.
