Alberta – November 21st, 2019. Preparing for Superstore negotiations is underway, and Superstore members can expect to receive regular updates as we move ahead.
Though we expect to be at the table with Loblaw early in the new year, there are several steps needed before that point.
Firstly, we need to select a Negotiating Committee; we have had a hearteningly large amount of interest with over 300 applications to represent the membership at negotiations. Regrettably, we are not able to have 300 people at the negotiating table; as such, we will have to seek representation from each of the geographic regions and major departments.
That said, UFCW Local 401, President Tom Hesse, wants everyone to know that “we will ensure our Superstore members that Local 401 will conduct open and transparent bargaining” and “all members are welcome to visit with the committee or sit in on negotiations.”
We will be posting and sharing all negotiation dates with the membership through the Local 401 website and social media channels.
We ask any members who wish to attend to let their Union Labour Relation Officer know so we can make sure we have seating for everyone.
Once the Negotiating Committee is in place, we will be analyzing the proposals and presenting them to the membership.
Additionally, we will be holding a telephone town hall with the entire Superstore membership to confirm the member’s priorities.
