Cargill Case-Ready: Strike Vote Prep Meeting Shows Strong, United Workers!

President Thomas Hesse of UFCW Local 401 and other Union officials join almost two hundred workers at yesterday’s meeting for a show of strength and unity.

As we head into this week’s strike vote, it’s important to maintain a strong, united front to show Cargill that their workers can’t be dismissed.

As President Hesse said to workers attending yesterday’s strike vote preparation meeting: “Cargill is very powerful, but so are you.”

“Solidarity is very important,” added Hesse. “You won’t be alone. Your fellow workers will stand with you, labour organizations and Union officials will all be there for you, but ultimately, a successful fight comes from you standing with each other.”

Secretary-Treasurer Richelle Stewart of UFCW 401 said: “Our Union has a long history of taking on tough fights and winning.” She added: “When we’re united, we can achieve amazing things. Now is not the time to be shy!”

There was indeed a strong sense of energy and unity at this strike vote prep meeting! Members were engaged, asked questions and offered their own viewpoints. They shared important stories and pieces of their experience with Union representatives.

It’s important to keep that energy going and to Vote Yes in the upcoming strike vote. A strong yes vote gives you more leverage at the bargaining table as we go back to the table to seek a better deal from Cargill.

The strike vote will be held on Wednesday June 5th and Thursday June 6th at:

Holiday Inn & Suites Calgary Airport North
20 Freeport PIace NE
Calgary, AB

11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Come out and Vote Yes! If for any reason you can’t attend the vote, please contact Devin Yeager (e-mail:, cell: 403-680-4184) or Chris O’Halloran (e-mail:, cell: 587-999-6448) and they’ll do their best to set up an alternative for you.
