Calling all Calgary and area 401 members. Calgary’s Globalfest is coming up soon (August 7-25).
There are loads of amazing and fun events planned throughout the entire festival, including live music for all tastes throughout, a night market, amazing food, speakers’ panels discussing a variety of interesting topics, there are also dance workshops, and even a fireworks festival planned for 5 different nights! You can get all the info you need HERE
We’re also super sparked to announce that UFCW Local 401’s very own Ricardo de Menezes, Union Rep extraordinaire, will be on hand on August 8th at the Human Rights Forum to talk about our labour rights in Alberta and the path to citizenship for foreign workers.
The Human Rights Forum features 4 evenings of panel discussion on the themes of Shelter, Good Work, Food Dignity, and Learning Together. Our speakers include a highly knowledgeable group of academics, community leaders, educators and urban artists in a format that encourages the sharing of experiences, knowledge, and the practical solutions necessary to address issues of racism and discrimination.
The concluding day of the Forum, Future Generations, features a 1 hour performance by Indigenous LA-based Hip Hop group Lightning Cloud, and a 30 minute performance of TRUTH Production, a theatre project with a blended cast of Indigenous and non-Indigenous urban artists; creating, working and performing together to celebrate cultural resiliency through artistic performances based on true-life stories of Indigenous people in Alberta and globally.
How would you like to get a free all-access pass, free meal, and more to this amazing festival?
