Important Safeway Bargaining Update

UFCW local 401 is conducting the most comprehensive and exhaustive survey of its Safeway members ever undertaken.

Through thousands of online survey submissions and mail out survey submissions, we are compiling the results of a special survey that will tell us and your company exactly how you feel about working at Sobeys. It will also tell us what you would like to see in your new Union Contract.

Frankly, the response of the Safeway membership has been exciting and your Union Representatives are charged with the responsibility of compiling the results. It’s a lot of data to say the least!

Unique times call for a unique approach. UFCW Local 401 has a special strategy for Sobeys/Safeway negotiations and we are proceeding delicately and deliberately. Safeway employees have endorsed this strategy through our survey results and our attendance at special meetings earlier this year.

We are still seeing interest among Safeway union members in sitting on the bargaining committee. If you are interested in doing so, please advise us immediately. We will be making a decision as to who will serve on the committee in the coming weeks.

It has also been developed to build solidarity among our members and to send Sobeys a message that we will bargain from a position of strength.

Further, the site will be used to communicate with Sobeys employees themselves with respect to the grocery industry.
