August 10, 2020 – Calgary, AB. We are pleased to announce that Israel Simeon has won a 2020 UFCW Local 401 Grant Notley Memorial Scholarship. Studying accounting and finance at the University of Alberta’s School of Business, Israel is working towards becoming an accountant. In the long term, he would like to run a business of his own one day. An avid volunteer, Israel was Teen Volunteer of the Year in 2016.
With COVID-19, he continues to work as best he can to be involved in his community.
Israel’s father is a member of UFCW Local 401 working for Civeo.

The Grant Notley Memorial Scholarship is a competitive award available to UFCW Local 401 members and their immediate families. Commemorating the life-long dedication and work of Grant Notley (former leader of the Alberta New Democratic Party), the scholarship seeks to encourage working Albertans and their families to pursue their educational goals and commit to building a better life for working Albertans.
The Grant Notley Memorial Scholarships may vary in value from $500.00 and up to $2,000.00. Each Year there is up to $25,000.00 allocated for disbursement to eligible applicants enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution.
