Light It Up Blue April 2 Autism Awareness Day

Today we celebrate World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) which was adopted by the United Nations in 2007 to spread awareness about Autism as a growing worldwide health crisis. Spreading awareness about autism includes increasing knowledge of the importance of early diagnosis and early intervention therapy while also celebrating the unique contribution of people with autism to our lives and communities.

On April 2, we commemorate WAAD with the Autism Speaks Light It Up Blue campaign where we help to shine a light on autism. On this day, you can Light It Up Blue to honour the individuals and families who are globally impacted by autism.

“I would like to encourage everyone to participate in the Light It Up Blue event today,” said UFCW Local 401 Union Representative April Albrecht. “To bring more awareness to autism on World Autism Awareness Day, Autism Speaks is asking people to light up their homes blue for one day,” continues Albrecht, who also heads up the UFCW Local 401 Women’s Committee.
