Greetings, everyone!
With Friday’s vote completed, you are one step closer to having UFCW Local 401 formally become your union at Maple Leaf in Edmonton. We’re really confident that you have won the change that so many of you have been seeking.
There are just a few more challenges before us, and that’s what this update is about.
But before getting into those, from the leadership and members of UFCW Local 401, we sincerely wish to express how proud and delighted we are of all the hard work and commitment you have demonstrated throughout this campaign.
In the face of significant challenges, you have remained firm in your resolve to build a strong and effective union at Maple Leaf in Edmonton.
Some have been asking about the status of Friday’s vote.
The Alberta Labour Relations Board has sealed the ballot box for the time being. We expected this, as the Labour Board now has to sort through the various legal challenges that have arisen during this process. Unfortunately, this will take time.
The Labour Board is currently scheduling hearings to deal with those matters, and we expect that as soon as those issues are resolved, they will order the counting of the ballots.
While we are really confident that you won, we won’t know the official results until then.
Having a strong union is about each and every one of us being united in the workplace every day. That’s just as important as having a strong and bold union backing you up.
We really encourage everyone – no matter how they have felt about things – to come together and show Maple Leaf management that we are strong. In the meantime, we are firmly committed to continuing to guide you through this process.
As we do so, should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
In solidarity,
Catherine Lelis
