Opportunities to connect with your union ahead of the Safeway vote

Safeway workers have an important decision to make. Your union is here to ensure you have all the information you need.

Starting soon, Safeway members will have the opportunity to cast ballots on whether to reject or accept the Company offer. You will be able to cast your ballot either in-person or online.

We also have some meetings coming up where you can receive information about the offer and ask any questions you may have. And just like voting, there are opportunities to attend in-person or virtually.

In-Person Meetings

Your union will be holding in-person meetings in Edmonton and Calgary on January 18 and 19, 2025, respectively. At the meetings, you will have the opportunity to meet and hear from President Thomas Hesse and Secretary Treasurer Richelle Stewart and ask your questions.

Members of your Bargaining Committee will also be at the meetings to answer any questions you might have about the offer and the negotiations meetings that took place with the Company in December.

The details for the meetings are as follows:

Edmonton In-Person Meeting
Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 2 PM
Edmonton Inn and Conference Centre
11843 Kingsway NW

Calgary In-Person Meeting
Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 2 PM
Best Western Calgary Plaza
1316 33 Street NE

If you live in or around Calgary or Edmonton, we would love to see you at one of these meetings to hear your story and answer your questions.

Virtual and Zoom Meetings

We know that not everyone can make it to Calgary or Edmonton for an in-person meeting. We also know that not everyone in those cities will be available to attend the meetings.

So, to ensure everyone has a chance to connect with their union before voting closes on this important decision, we are also hosting a special virtual meeting for all Safeway members on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 7 PM.

Our virtual meeting will operate exactly the same way as our telephone and video town halls.

You will be emailed a link to join a live video stream of the meeting. This way, you will be able to see the meeting take place, hear the conversation, and ask any questions you may have.

If you prefer, you can also participate via telephone just like you have in the past.

If you do not click the link you are sent and join the meeting that way, you will receive a phone call from your union at approximately 7 PM.

By answering that call, you will be automatically connected to our special virtual meeting by telephone where you can listen to the conversation and ask your questions.

Additionally, we will be having two Zoom meetings for members who work on night crews on January 20, 2025, at the following times:

There is a growing movement among Safeway workers who are voting no because they do not feel the Company’s offer will meet their needs over the next four years.

Ultimately, the decision around whether to reject or accept the offer is yours to make. Your union wants to ensure you have the opportunity to connect with us and get all the information you need to make an informed decision.

President Hesse and Secretary Treasurer Stewart look forward to interacting with you at one of our in-person meetings in Edmonton and Calgary or via our virtual meeting online.
