Tackling the Affordability Crisis in Alberta: A Virtual General Membership Meeting!

Tackling the affordability crisis in Alberta continues to be your union’s focus in bargaining and, frankly, everything we do for our members.

The cost of living is an urgent issue across Canada. But in many ways, the impact of this crisis is most intensely felt in Alberta. Our members are feeling the strain on their mental and physical health in workplaces across the province.

At our next virtual general membership meeting — hosted in Red Deer — we’ll be talking about this crisis and how we can work to address it with UFCW Canada’s Economist, Chris Abbott.

UFCW Canada’s Economist, Christ Abbott, addresses Local 401 members at a bargaining conference in 2025.

Chris Abbott is the in-house economist for UFCW Canada. His work provides clear insights into wages, working conditions, and company performance across Canadian industries, supporting our union’s bargaining teams and members. Chris holds a doctorate in Political Science from Queen’s University.

Want to hear what Chris has to say about the affordability crisis, and ask your questions? Join our next virtual general membership meeting on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026, at 7 PM!
