“We have heard from our members on this issue and we are following their direction,” says Union President Thomas Hesse. “It is also clear that our members want us to bargain from a position of strength. So, we will take our fight to the bargaining table on their behalf for this focused round of discussions with Safeway.”

Your union is in the process of collecting proposals from Safeway members and assembling a Bargaining Committee to meet with the Company. Watch for a bargaining survey seeking your input and interest shortly.

“It’s been a difficult time for our Safeway members with a great deal of uncertainty,” says Secretary Treasurer Richelle Stewart. “This will be a chance to push back against Safeway’s greed and intimidation. The more members we have engaged in these discussions and supporting their Bargaining Committee, the harder we can push the Company.”

President Hesse and Secretary Treasurer Stewart will be asking hard questions of Safeway and standing up for Safeway workers!

As always, your union will be coordinating open bargaining where members are invited and encouraged to participate. If you live in the Edmonton area and wish to observe parts of the abbreviated bargaining process, reach out to your Union Labour Relations Officer to explore participating.

“Remember, united we bargain, divided we beg,” concluded President Hesse. “We are a fighting union and if Safeway members stand together, I know we can come out of this process stronger than ever.”
