Think of Food Workers this Thanksgiving

Statement from President Hesse and Secretary-Treasurer Stewart on Thanksgiving 2020:

For many, Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate the fall harvest and to be grateful for all that we have. Fall colours and family time give comfort as we prepare for the colder times of the year.
Thanksgiving is also a time for us to reflect on our traditions as well as the practical meaning of truth, reconciliation, and justice. Let us learn about what this holiday means for all those who call this continent home.
“As the union for food workers, this year has been like no other. We stand together in our demands for justice and respect in our workplaces and communities. It has taken even more courage and strength than usual for food workers and those who work the land to make our collective harvests possible. Let us be grateful for all of those who struggle for justice.” – Richelle Stewart, Secretary-Treasurer, UFCW Local 401
“Please join us in recognizing and thanking food workers for their work and the struggles they have undertaken to seek justice in their workplaces. While being grateful for all that we have, let us also reflect on the land we call home and all those who continue to struggle for justice – at work, in society, and in the name of another possible and necessary world.” – Thomas Hesse, President, UFCW Local 401
