UFCW Local 401 Goes the Extra Mile at Marmot Basin!

UFCW 401’s Northern Director Linda Mariani at Marmot Basin Ski Resort.

Marmot Basin Ski Resort is a newly-unionized workplace in Jasper. Our members here do seasonal work, many as ski instructors and snow farmers, and they worked hard to join a union in order to have a voice in their work conditions and a better wage. They do incredibly physical work that’s essential to keeping the resort open and running.

Linda Mariani, our Northern Director, recently joined Marmot Basin’s ULRO Sam Nuako in a planned and scheduled meeting with the company and later with members. They mounted a Skidoo to tour the ski hills and familiarize themselves not only with the work of the members but also the scope of their jobs: a great example of the lengths to which UFCW 401 staff will go to support our members. At the meeting, Marmot Basin members proved once again to be extremely engaged and enthusiastic!

The 2024 season is unique, as people are still feeling the effects of the devastating 2024 Alberta Wildfires. Many people in Jasper, our members included, have lost their homes due to the fires. They are displaced and struggling, despite being happy to be back at work.

The work of recovery in Jasper is still ongoing, and anyone who wishes and has the means to support it can still donate to do so. Click here for more information and to make a donation. And please join us in giving our members at Marmot Basin a shoutout of Union Solidarity!

In solidarity,

Your Union
