UFCW Local 401 respectfully acknowledges that we live and work on the traditional and unceded territories of Indigenous Peoples across Alberta. These lands include:
We honour the enduring presence, cultures, and contributions of these Nations and their peoples, who continue to enrich these lands, traditionally known to many Indigenous peoples as Turtle Island.
As part of our ongoing commitment to reconciliation, we recognize the long history of colonialism, oppression, and dispossession that Indigenous Peoples have endured. We acknowledge the deep and lasting impacts of this history and commit to engaging in meaningful, transformative actions that support truth, justice, and healing.
We understand that reconciliation is a shared journey, one that must be guided by respect, humility, and a willingness to confront difficult truths.
We also stand in solidarity with Indigenous communities in addressing the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S+), and recognize the urgent need for justice, safety, and systemic change.
UFCW Local 401 observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a time to honour survivors of residential schools, remember those who never returned, and reflect on the enduring impacts of colonization and cultural genocide.
As members of the labour movement, we affirm that Indigenous rights are human rights. We are committed to dismantling systemic racism, ending all forms of oppression, and creating inclusive spaces where Indigenous peoples can live and work with dignity, safety, and respect.
Together, as Treaty People, we walk the path of reconciliation grounded in peace, friendship, and collective action for a more just future.
