After an impressive 42 years at Safeway, Joyce is leaving behind some very big shoes to fill. Not only was Joyce a familiar face at union meetings, she played a key role in the hiring process for new employees, providing training and mentorship for many workers. She was also called upon to assist with grand openings of new stores and often stayed in them afterward to ensure smooth sailing.
While she worries the pandemic may sideline her travel plans for some time to come, she’s by no means short of ideas and plans for fun activities.
“I will have plenty of time to spend with my loved ones and focus on my daily workouts and walking approximately 8 kms per day,” she tells us. “Listening to my music collection is one of my favourite pastimes.”
Golf and socializing with friends and family (when it’s safe to do so once again) and playing musical instruments also tops her list of passions she plans on pursuing. She also looks forward to spending time on her hobbies such as dancing, sewing, reading, knitting and crocheting, and of course, keeping tabs on her Calgary Flames!
Congratulations, Joyce. While we are sad to see you go, we are thrilled for you and grateful for your decades long membership in UFCW. Enjoy your retirement!
