Capilano Safeway has its First Lunch & Learn-Looking Forward to the Next!

On Friday September 25th we had super team building afternoon at Capilano Safeway! UFCW Local 401 and Safeway management hosted a pizza party Lunch N’ Learn, which was run by our dedicated Shop Stewards Petra Garbe, Sheena Thomson and Linda Rivard.

Members were able to come to the lunchroom over lunch and on their breaks to enjoy pizza and pop and a wonderful cake expertly decorated by Karen in their bakery. Store Manager Andrea Eriksson and Union Representative Dee Mae Beler were on hand to answer questions and chat.

A huge thanks to Petra, Sheena and Linda who worked hard on getting materials together to showcase for all of the employees the wide range of benefits available to union members.  Things like medical benefits, scholarships, education opportunities, including webCampus, all of which are available to our members.

There was lots of conversation and laughter while managers, Union Representatives and Shop Stewards go to know each other a little bit better. The best part, however, was having the chance to show members about all the benefits of unionization and doing so in a fun and carefree environment. Many members often do not understand ALL the benefits that are available to them through through their union and this was a great first step to ensuring information is shared so everyone can take advantage of what’s available. This information will be very useful for the staff at Capilano Safeway-Sobeys.

We even had several guests stop in to say hi as well. Thanks to Sharon Voghell, HR Advisor, Bart De Jourdan, Rehabilitation Specialist, Shauna Robertson, UFCW 401 Union Representative, and Richelle Stewart, UFCW 401 Northern Director for taking the time to come by and introduce themselves.

Plans are already being made for our next Lunch & Learn… stay tuned for more education and fun!
