Next week, Safeway workers will go to the polls to vote on Sobeys’ offer of settlement. In what will be the largest, most inclusive and democratic vote structure the Local has ever undertaken, members will be voting between August 4-7.

“Ahead of our province wide votes, we are very grateful to all who speak up and show solidarity for these hardworking frontline workers, and we thank each and every one of them for that support,” said UFCW 401 President Thomas Hesse.

Workers supporting workers is one of the pillars of our democracy, and serves to ensure our rights and values as workers are advanced. There truly is strength in numbers.

“When we stand together, everyone is the beneficiary. Our society as a whole becomes healthier and stronger when we take care of each other,” UFCW 401 Treasurer Richelle Stewart stated.
