Sherwood Park Superstore Latest to Lunch & Learn

On Tuesday, June 28th the latest store, and first Superstore, to hold their own Lunch and Learn took place at the Sherwood Park store.  This educational opportunity was just the first of many more to come at Superstore.

The purpose of the Lunch & Learn developed for this particular store was to provide members with information on the exciting improvements to the part-time benefit plan and playfully test their knowledge of their very own Union Contract by way of a fun questionnaire.  Shop Steward Colleen Ewen and union member Sue Michael delivered the important information to the Members regarding their benefits.  There was also a free BBQ for staff who were in attendance, which the employer generously provided.

The Lunch & Learn also highlighted the partnership that UFCW 401 has with Superstore as we work together to improve morale, working conditions, and benefits for all.  In fact, Store Manager Richard was very keen on having the first Lunch & Learn in his store and provided all of the BBQ essentials, snacks, and refreshments for the event.  We also want to acknowledge and give special credit to Betty, the Assistant Store Manager, for her great BBQ skills.

UFCW 401 contributed the desserts and draw prizes, which included gift cards, jackets, and belt buckles.  All who attended also had their choice of receiving a Local 401 hat or water bottle, so no one left empty handed.

The event would not have been such a success without the dedication and commitment of the Lunch and Learn committee members: Sandy Novak, Colleen Ewen, Sue Michael, and Percy Brass.  And an honourable mention goes to Chris Roejskjaer who was of great assistance to Sandy in the creation of the art work for the posters promoting the event.  Thank you to ALL who helped put this amazing Lunch and Learn together AND deliver the information to all the members who were eager to learn more about the benefits of belonging to Local 401.

A great time was had by all who were able to attend, and the committee at the Sherwood Park Superstore is looking forward to recruiting more committee members for the next event in their workplace, which will surely prove to be another successful learning event.
