The Winners’ Circle: UFCW 401 Scholarship Winners!

We are proud and delighted to announce several scholarship winners from Local 401 for the Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarship and the Grant Notley Memorial Scholarship!

Every year, UFCW Canada offers 18 BDM Scholarships valued at $1,000 each to members and their dependents to help cover the costs of post-secondary education. Cynthia Philips, Tirth Yogeshkumar Patel and Andres Fung represent Local 401 among this year’s winners! (Applications for 2025’s BDM Scholarships are now open: see here for more information.)

The Grant Notley Memorial Scholarship is all about support for members of our local and their families. It’s about fostering creative thinkers who will lend their hands to the crucial work of unions. Applications for the 2025 scholarships are now open!

MEET 2024’S GRANT NOTLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS!

Mia Borges is studying to become an occupational therapist at the University of Alberta. Darlynna Ting is a student at NAIT who aspires to become a graphics designer.

Shayan Salim has plans to become a registered nurse and to gain hands-on experience in a hospital setting. Samuel Boateng is studying computer science with a view to working in the tech sector, focused on ethical technology and inclusive solutions to day-to-day challenges.

Gurleen Kaur is studying Business Administration, and wants to gain experience in accounting before transitioning to healthcare. Adeshpartap Rattol is completing a degree in Human Resources, a field where he wants to work in order to contribute to better conditions for employees.

Dharmendran Manoharan is completing a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering, and wants to put his technical and managerial expertise to work in the supply chain and mechanical fields. Arbaz Ahmad is completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree and hopes to pursue a career as a CPA.

Ivan Sopilko is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and considering a specialty in Electrical Engineering. Mahdi Kiaee is studying Business Technology Management at the Haskayne School of Business with a view toward research and teaching at the post-secondary level.
