The Home Maintenance and Housekeeping Allowance for Injured Workers

Injured workers in Alberta who have confirmation from the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) that they have permanent work restrictions due to a compensable injury, they may be eligible for additional support through the Home Maintenance and Housekeeping Allowance (HMA / HKA).

The Home Maintenance and Housekeeping Allowance is a benefit provided by WCB Alberta to help injured workers manage the tasks that they may no longer be able to perform due to their permanent work restrictions. This support is designed to ensure that injured workers’ living environment remains safe and well-maintained, to support their overall well-being.


ELIGIBILITY & WHAT THE BENEFIT COVERS

If you’re an injured worker in Alberta who has confirmation from the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) that you have permanent work restrictions due to a compensable injury, you may be eligible for additional support through the Home Maintenance and Housekeeping Allowance (HMA / HKA).

The Home Maintenance and Housekeeping Allowance is a benefit provided by WCB Alberta to help injured workers manage the tasks that they may no longer be able to perform due to their permanent work restrictions. This support is designed to ensure that injured workers’ living environment remains safe and well-maintained, to support their overall well-being.

To be eligible for this allowance, you must:

  • Be an injured worker with a compensable injury confirmed by WCB Alberta.
  • Have been assessed and confirmed by WCB Alberta to have permanent work restrictions as a result of your injury.

The allowance can cover a range of home maintenance and housekeeping tasks that you are unable to perform due to your injury. These tasks may include:

  • Cleaning and housekeeping services
  • Lawn care and yard maintenance
  • Snow removal
  • Minor home repairs and upkeep
