UFCW 401 members at the Sofina North Plant in Edmonton,
Following ratification votes held on May 15 and 16, 2025, your union is pleased to report that 86% of members voted in favour of accepting the company’s final offer.
As a result of this majority vote, the strike previously scheduled for Tuesday, May 20, 2025, has been cancelled.
This strong outcome reflects the power of your participation, engagement, and solidarity throughout the bargaining process.
“The courage of Local 401 members in moments like these sets the tone for what fairness can look like in Alberta workplaces,” said Thomas Hesse, President of UFCW Local 401. “The ratification process isn’t just a vote on a deal. It’s a vote for stability, hope, and to continue building a future for working people.”
Your UFCW Local 401 Negotiating Committee extends our heartfelt thanks to all members for standing together. Your presence in meetings, your questions, your feedback, and your votes are what made this result possible.
“Facing difficult decisions about your future is never easy,” said Richelle Stewart, Secretary Treasurer of UFCW Local 401. “But the unity shown by Sofina union members has been inspiring. This agreement reflects the strength you have demonstrated as a community through your union.”
We will be providing more details about the new agreement and what it means for you in the coming days. Please stay tuned for further updates.
In solidarity,
Your UFCW 401 Negotiating Committee
